The final chapter in the Souls series has come to a close, and will remain closed if Hidetaka Miyazaki, the Director of Dark Souls 3, is to be believed. Having already started work on a new IP, From Software President told GGN Gamer in an interview that they wanted to walk in a new direction and that Miyazaki had already started working on their brand new game.
“There’s absolutely no plan right now for any sequels, spin-offs or tie-ins. But I can’t say for certain the possibility is 0%.”, said Miyazaki. And he went on to say, “For example, if a FROM Software developer comes to me five years from now and beg ‘please let me make another Dark Souls‘. Then I will not rule out the possibility to let my subordinates start a new project. What is certain for now is, to me personally Dark Souls is over.”
He also said that the same stands true for Demon’s Souls and Bloodborne, both of which are tightly wound around the Souls formula.
Miyazaki also showed interest in making more of the Armored Core games, which is a franchise From Software has worked on before.
“Personally, I want to do it,” Miyazaki replied to a question about the mech action series. “After all, I was involved in three games in the series. Armored Core is one of the pillars of From Software’s lineup, but I can’t reveal anything at the moment.”
As s Souls fan, I’d like to see more of those but I am satisfied with how the series has wrapped itself up, and am definitely interested in seeing what else the studio is capable of.
