The highly popular HBO TV Series Game of Thrones is an adaptation from the book series A Song Of Ice And Fire by George R.R. Martin. But did you know that there are several games that have been based on this series? Here are 5 of the most talked about game adaptations of the Game of Thrones series.
Game of Thrones: Genesis (Cyanide, PC, 2011)
The oldest of the lot, “Game of Thrones: Genesis” is based exclusively on the books. It was the first video or computer game adaptation and dates way back from the main story. It has a very complex RTS with a lot of interesting ideas. No familiar faces can be found. This game spread across a span of thousands of years and is for those hardcore Game of Thrones fans who would love to fight as Aegon the Conqueror or Nymeria.
Game of Thrones – The Game (Cyanide, PS3/Xbox 360/PC, 2012)
Developed by Cyanide and published by Atlus and Focus Home Interactive, Game of Thrones – The Game is an RPG based on the first of the A Song of Ice and Fire series, “A Game of Thrones” and in part, also based on the TV adaptation by HBO, Game of Thrones. James Cosmo and Conleth Hill reprise their roles from the HBO series as Lord Commander Jeor Mormont and Lord Varys, respectively. Even George R. R. Martin has a role as Maester Martin in Castlewood. The video game also uses other assets of the TV show such as the music.
Game of Thrones Ascent (Disrupter Beam, iOs/Android/Facebook/Kongregate, 2013)
Game of Thrones Ascent is a strategy video game adapted on the novel series A Song of Ice and Fire and the HBO TV series Game Of Thrones and is the first such social network game. The game was a 2013 Facebook Game of the Year in the Staff Picks category and a winner of a 2013 Friendie Award. According to Martin, the game features “alliance building, treachery, marriages, murders, and most of all the constant struggle to be the greatest house in Westeros.” The game has over 9 million players!
Game Of Thrones – A Telltale Games Series (Telltale Games, Android/iOS/Microsoft Windows/OS X/PS3/PS4/Xbox 360/Xbox One, 2014)
Game of Thrones is an episodic graphic adventure fantasy drama video game based on the A Song of Ice and Fire fantasy novels by George R. R. Martin and their TV adaptation Game of Thrones. The story revolves around the northern House Forrester, rulers of Ironrath, whose members, including the five playable characters, attempt to save their family and themselves after ending up on the losing side of the War of the Five Kings. The game includes settings, characters and voice actors from the novels and TV series. The episodic format allows the player’s choices and actions to influence later events in the 6-episode arc.
Game Of Thrones: Seven Kingdoms (Coming Soon)
Game of Thrones: Seven Kingdoms is a fantasy massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), currently under development by video game developers Bigpoint and Artplant, in collaboration with HBO. The game will be based on the HBO TV series, Game of Thrones.
